4/2/92. In addition, ED has agreed to the following terms -- Cover
letters to respondents shall indicate that NSF and NEH are co
sponsors, and shall include these agencies' endorsements. Cover
lette shall also indicate the organizations lending support through
the National Technical Review Panel. -- ED shall implement a
separate field test for instructional staff in proprietary and
less-than-two year institutions during FY 1993, and shall include
this sector in the third cycle of NSOPF. -- ED shall develop a
supply and demand model for higher education faculty as soon as
possible, based on parameters from the 1993 NSOPF a other
appropriate sources. -- Data on numbers of faculty actively being
recruited by institutions will not be reported as equivalent to the
number of faculty needed to meet student demand. -- ED shall match
sample lists from the main study with lists from the field test, to
ensure that faculty members are not sampled twice. Accordingly,
ED's proposed revision to the Field Test letter indicatin that
faculty respondents may be contacted again for the main study is
not necessary and should be deleted.

THE NATIONAL STUDY OF POSTSECONDARY
FACULTY (NSOPF) IS A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF POSTSECONDARY FACULTY.
NSOPF WAS CONDUCTED FOR THE FIRST TIM IN 1988. THE 1993 NSOPF WILL
FATHER AND UPDATE INFORMATION REGARDING THE BACKGROUND,
RESPONSIBILITIES, COMPENSATION, AND ATTITUDES OF HIGHE EDUCATION
FACULTY. THIS COMPONENT OF THE NSOPF IS FOR THE FACULTY AND
INSTITUTION QUESTIONNAIRES.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
