Your child care program has been identified as a potential participant in an important research study.
What is the Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care?Dear Child Care Center Director:
The Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care is a research project sponsored by REL West and the U.S. Department of Education. This study will help policy makers understand how the Program for Infant Toddler Care, a highly regarded caregiver training program, helps children grow and learn.
Why was my child care program selected for the study?
Your child care program was selected as a potential study participant because it is located within the study region and is licensed to provide child care to children less than 2 years of age.
If I am interested in participating in the study, what do I do next?
You will be invited to a meeting to learn more about the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) and the study. At this meeting you may sign up to have your program participate in the study.
You will be asked to discuss the study with parents and with your infant/toddler staff and to distribute consent forms. Each program that collects signed consent forms from parents and caregivers in 1-2 designated classrooms within two weeks will receive a $15 merchandise gift card for each of the classrooms.
About half of the programs participating in the study will be selected to receive the PITC training in 2007. Other programs will continue to provide data for the study and will be given an option to receive the PITC in 2009.
Each individual caregiver who provides data for the study will receive a $25 merchandise gift card in 2007 and again in 2008.
The PITC philosophy is that infant toddler child care is neither preschool nor babysitting but is a special kind of care like no other. The PITC provides training and technical assistance in caregiving practices. The PITC is based on the latest developmental research, theory, and practice and is designed to improve the quality of care you provide.
There is no fee for participating in PITC.
Other features of the PITC include:
Professional growth incentives, including academic credits OR $350 either in the form of cash or resource materials, for completing the PITC curriculum and meeting all program requirements.
Experienced PITC certified trainers who understand the challenges and opportunities caregivers face every day.
Technical assistance provided on-site; training provided either on-site (for centers) or to small groups of providers at a convenient location (for family child care homes).
