OMB 1850-0824

Attachment to Form 83C Paperwork Reduction Act Change Worksheet

We are requesting a change to the approved burden level for a Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences study “Strategies for American Indian Parent Involvement Focus Groups” (OMB # 1850-0824). This study was approved for conducting four focus groups across two states: North Dakota and South Dakota. Recruitment and data collection thus far has occurred only in North Dakota. Recruitment in North Dakota resulted in sufficient respondent interest to conduct all four focus groups in this state. Thus, the data collection burden currently approved (see Table 1) is insufficient to collect data as needed in South Dakota. Data collection in South Dakota is important due to expected local and tribal issues related to parent involvement in education that would not be identifiable without collecting data in this state.

The proposed change in burden (see Table 2) is based on continuation of the data collection in the second state, South Dakota. We are requesting an additional five focus groups, for a total of nine, with a corresponding increase in school contacts and recruiting burden.
