PREPARATIONS (September 2006-June 2007)
September – March 2007
1. MOU finalized between WestEd and BIE. Agreement specifies monetary, in-kind and personnel contributions from each organization as well as deliverables and due dates.
2. Complete matrix analysis of common economic concepts and unit-specific variations (e.g., scarcity in Running in Place vs. President’s Dilemma)
3. BIE recommences teacher recruitment
4. Individual MOUs signed by each participating teacher, WestEd and BIE
January – May 2007
1. Prepare, refine (as needed) and reproduce the following instruments.
a) Teacher Background Survey
b) Test of Economic Literacy
c) Teacher Summer Institute Evaluation form
d) Student Background Survey
e) Student Unit Post Tests
f) Teacher End of Unit Surveys
g) Student Performance Assessment Tasks (CRESST items)

1. Conduct a two-day Trainer’s Institute to prepare and standardize the first Summer Institute professional development
2. Revise Prepare Running in Place, High School Food Court and Invisible Hand
FIRST YEAR STUDY (August 2007 – May 2008)
The schedule assumes classes run from September through January, and from February through June. Unit durations are based on approximately one hour per day and represent the minimum amount of class time for unit implementation. Variations will be accounted for including total days spent and hours of class time. “All teachers” refers to both treatment and comparison group. While “participating teachers” refers to the treatment group only.
August 2007
1. Conduct five-day Summer Institutes
2 Distribute PBE curricular materials, research instruments and procedures to treatment teachers

September 2007
