Your participation in this important research study can help us improve the quality of child care training in the U.S.

DEAR CHILD CARE PROVIDER,

We are inviting you to participate in the Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care. The Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) is a training program for child care providers. Your child care program is interested in participating in this study.

What is the Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care?

The Study of the Program for Infant Toddler Care is a research project sponsored by REL West and the U.S. Department of Education. This study will help policy makers understand how the Program for Infant Toddler Care, a highly regarded caregiver training program, helps children grow and learn.

About half of the programs participating in the study will be selected to receive the PITC training in 2007. Other programs will be given an option to receive the PITC in 2009.

If I would like to participate in the study, what do I do next?

Please read the attached consent form and return it to the director or owner of your child care program.

Each caregiver will receive a $25 merchandise gift card for participating in the study in 2007 and again in 2008.

What is the Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC)?

The PITC philosophy is that infant toddler child care is neither preschool nor babysitting but is a special kind of care like no other. The PITC provides training and technical assistance in caregiving practices. The PITC is based on the latest developmental research, theory, and practice and is designed to improve the quality of care you provide.

There is no fee for participating in PITC.

Other features of the PITC include:

    • Professional growth compensation, including academic credits OR $350 either in the form of cash or resource materials, for completing the PITC curriculum and meeting all program requirements.

    • Experienced PITC certified trainers who understand the challenges and opportunities caregivers face every day.

    • Technical assistance provided on-site; training provided either on-site (for centers) or to small groups of providers at a convenient location (for family child care homes).
