Terms of Clearance: Approved as amended by ED's memos to OMB of 11/12/97 and 11/18/97 as well as ED's revised submission of these forms which eliminated the Checklist and Information Sheet and the Reconciliation Form and combined the Faculty List Documentation Form and the Instructions for Preparing Machine-Readable Lists of Faculty. In addition ED agrees to the following: 1) ED will include in both the cover letter to the Institution Coordinator and the Chief Administrative Officer a description of the various technology options avaliable as described in Response #1 of the 11/18 memo; 2) If there are any changes or additions to this approval request due to actions taken by NSF or NEH, ED will provide an addendum to this approval request; 3) Following the completion of this field test, ED will submit to OMB the field test results, any changes or additions to the field test to be used in the full study, and a form 83-C to account for the difference in burden between the field study and the full study.

Abstract: The third cycle of the NSOPF is being conducted in response to a continuing need for data on faculty and instructions. The study will provide information about faculty in postsecondary institutions, which is key to learning about the quality of education and research in these institutions. This study will expand the information about faculty and instructional staff in two ways--allowing comparisons to be made over time and examining critical issues surrounding faculty that have developed since the first two studies.
