This information
collection request is approved for the school year 1982-83 with the
proviso that states have the option of using or not using the
Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP). Both ED an OMB have
identified the VEDS data collection as being unnecessarily
burdensome. While attempting to seek statutory relief, ED should at
t same time explore additional areas of administrative burden
reduction such as the suspension of collecting certain data for
which practical utility is marginal.
