The standard requires employers to
train employees about the hazards of lead, monitor employee
exposure, provide medical surveillance, and maintain accurate
records of employee exposure to lead. These records will be used by
employers, employees, physicians and the Government to ensure that
employees are not harmed by exposure to lead in the
workplace.

The agency is requesting an
adjustment increase in the burden hours from 1,226,717 hours to
1,348,499 hours, a difference of 121,782 hours. The adjustment
increase is due to an increase in the total number of highway and
railroad bridge repainting lead-exposed projects which increased
the number of projects needing lead testing. Also, there was an
increase in cost for exposure monitoring and medical exams from
$82,343,194 to $86,496,074, a difference of $4,152,880.
