pdfMy review is complete for OMB docket 227, the Survey of Livestock Producer Perceptions of
Predators and Predator Damage Management Methods. My comments are below, which only
pertain to 3 files: the Screen Shot of Informed Consent Questionnaire, Appendix G Electronic
Questionnaire, and Appendix L Printed Questionnaire. I did not have issue with any other files.
Screen Shot of Informed Consent Questionnaire: The file is blurry and hard to read. If it is
actually being used for any purpose, I’d recommend swapping it with the first page of the file
Appendix G Electronic Questionnaire as it has the exact same content and a high-resolution image.
Appendix G Electronic Questionnaire:
Page 20: The question below is confusing. What are you trying to ask about? How can someone feel
positively towards a predator? How would someone determine how positively or negatively they
feel about a predator? The only use I could see in this question is to compare the relative sentiment
to the relative number of deaths due to each predator.
The question:
Overall, how would you describe your feelings towards each of the following predators?
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 = "Very negative" and 5 = "Very positive," please select one response
that corresponds to your answer. If the predator is not present in your state or area, select “Not
applicable.”
Pages 33 and 34: Two options among the possible ways Wildlife Services assisted farmers have
references to Q3.3, but none of the others do. Specifically, livestock husbandry and other
audio/visual deterrent have references included, but no other options. It’s possible this
inconsistency was intentional.
Page 43:
The space provided for the answer/explanation to the question:
“Are there other alternative or novel nonlethal predator damage management methods you think
Wildlife Services should implement? (For example, drones, thermal imaging devices, livestock
carcass disposal sites, pepper ball projectiles, GPS predator tracking)
Please select one.
o Yes (please specify the method(s) below and describe why you think they should be used)”
Is not sufficient for the user – more space is necessary. It’s possible that this is not a relevant
critique because this is an electronic survey and the actual box the user will by typing in is limitless
in size.
Appendix L Printed Questionnaire, Page 4: the option Other, please specify is likely not sufficient
space to answer the question given the length of the other options.
