DAWN is an on going national public
health surveillance system that monitors drug-related medical
emergencies and deaths. DAWN relies on a sample of hospital
emergency departments to generate nationally representative
estimates of drug-related emergency department visits.
Under legacy DAWN,
participating hospitals used their own staff to perform data
collection activities. The new DAWN does not offer an option for
the hospitals to perform data collection activities themselves.
Program changes from the legacy DAWN to this proposed new version
of DAWN result in a decrease of 56,611 hours.
