RISA, one of SSA's authentication methods, allows individuals to access their personal information through our Internet and Automated Telephone Services. SSA asks individuals and third parties who seek personal information from SSA records, or who register to participate in SSA's online business services, to provide certain identifying information. As an extra measure of protection, SSA asks requestors who use the Internet and telephone services to provide additional identifying information unique to those services so SSA can authenticate their identities before releasing personal information. The respondents are current beneficiaries who are requesting personal information from SSA, and individuals and third parties who are registering for SSA's online business services. We are doing a non-substantive change to update the to update the Telephone Knowledge Benefit Verification (TKBEV) application.

We are reducing the burden for the Internet collection by 1,423,084 respondents due to the placement of the new Retirement Estimator behind our mySocial Security landing page. Since the landing page is only accessible through our Public Credentialing and Authentication Process (OMB #0960-0789), we anticipate a decrease in respondents for 0960-0596, as we expect those respondents to use the 0960-0789 to access the new Retirement Estimator. We do not anticipate these changes in burden to take affect until 2021.
