The U.S. Department of Education is committed to assisting schools in providing a safe environment for students to learn and staff to work and to keeping parents and students well informed about campus safety and security. Data collected in this survey will be published by the Office of Postsecondary Education on the Campus Safety and Security Statistics website located at http://ope.ed.gov/security and on College Navigator. The data collection is authorized by §485(f) of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, 20 U.S.C. §1092(f) and 34 C.F.R. §§ 668.46 and 668.49 (a violation can result in a civil penalty of up to $55,907 per violation) Click here to view our Privacy Statement.

Institutional Burden

According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, no persons are required to respond to a collection of information unless such collection displays a valid OMB control number. The valid OMB control number for this information collection is 1840-0833. Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 25 minutes per response, including time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information. The obligation to respond to this collection is mandatory (§485 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended, 20 U.S.C. 1092,(a violation can result in a civil penalty of up to $55,907 per violation).
