Attachment 3. Public Comments and Program Responses
Biomonitoring of Great Lakes Populations Program III
During the 60-day FRN period, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) received one public comment. Please see below for the comment and ATSDR’s response.
Comment:
Hello,
With respect to the upcoming study, “Biomonitoring of Great Lakes Populations Program III,” whose purpose is to evaluate body burden levels of priority contaminants in Great Lakes residents, particularly those who are at high exposure risk in the Milwaukee Bay Estuary Area of Concern (AOC), I’d like to know if Informed Consent Forms (ICF) will be available in Burmese language to target study subjects, notably Burmese refugees living around the area.

Response:
Thank you for your comment in response to the Federal Register Notice for the “Biomonitoring of Great Lakes Populations Program III.”
Translating services will be a part of this study. Several materials, including informed consent forms, will be translated into Burmese and Karen for the Burmese refugee subpopulation. Our grantee, Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS), has already identified a key partner in Milwaukee at the International Institute of Wisconsin or (IIW) for local outreach among the Burmese refugee and the translation/interpretation services. IIW resettles individuals coming to Wisconsin from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), the group of refugees that this project will be targeting. IIW is a trusted resource in this specific Milwaukee refugee community and WI DHS will be working directly with IIW for outreach, translation service, and in-person interpretation during the study period. Therefore, the needs for translation services for this project have already been met.
If you have any additional questions about this study, please let us know.
