WELLNESS FOCUS GROUP SCREENING AND RECRUITMENT QUESTIONNAIRE



Target Audiences: Screening and Recruitment Criteria


  • Four groups in the Washington, DC (WDC), metropolitan area (WDC, Maryland, and Virginia market)

        • Forty participants representing the four major racial/ethnic groups in the United States:

      • Ten Whites

      • Ten African-Americans (Blacks)

      • Ten Hispanics/Latinos (mix of countries of origin)

      • Ten Asians

  • Mix of individuals with the following characteristics:

      • Mix of males and females

      • Mix of ages from 18 to 65

      • Mix of educational levels

      • Mix of income levels

  • Participants’ segmentation:

  • Individuals in recovery (substance misuse) (two)

  • Individuals in recovery (mental health) (two)

  • Individuals in the general population (two)Include family members/loved ones of people in recovery (two); community health providers servicing people in recovery (two)

For each group, recruit 12 participants, in anticipation of 10 to show.


PARTICIPANTS’ SELECTION CRITERIA



Recruit:

  • An equal number of men and women

  • A mix of individuals in recovery, including recovery from substance misuse, mental disorders, or co-occurring disorders

  • A mix of family members and loved ones/friends of someone in recovery

  • A mix of providers of community-based organizations, nongovernmental organizations, and/or faith-based organizations that are servicing people in recovery and their families

  • Individuals from the general population

  • A mix of ages, from 18 to 65 years old

  • A mix of income levels

  • A mix of educational levels

  • A mix of Spanish-dominant participants with different countries of origin (attempt a mix)


Each group needs a mix of the following segments (per quotas listed below; see Table 1):

  • Individuals in recovery (substance misuse) (two)

  • Individuals in recovery (mental health) (two)

  • Individuals in the general population (two)

  • Family members/loved ones of people in recovery (two)

  • Community health providers servicing people in recovery (two)

Additionally, each group needs an overall mix of the following (quotas listed below; see Table 1):

  • Mix of males and females

  • Mix of racial/ethnic groups

  • Mix of educational levels

  • Mix of income levels


EXCLUSION CRITERIA

  • Individuals younger than 18 and older than 65 years old

  • Community health providers working in areas other than prevention or recovery from mental and/or substance use disorders

  • (For the English groups) Individuals who are unable to read and write in English

  • (For the Spanish groups) Individuals who are unable to read and write in Spanish

  • Individuals who do not speak English or Spanish

  • Individuals living outside the WDC metropolitan area.


Recruitment Objectives


Recruit 12 individuals (to get 10 participants per group). Individuals are willing and available to participate in a focus group session of 90 minutes, at evening hours.


Tentative dates for conducting the focus groups are:

January 2017, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
