Hi, [POTENTIAL PARTICIPANT], I’m calling about a research study Westat/Child Trends is conducting for the Office of Head Start and the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The study is about developing a tool to measure the quality relationships between Head Start/Early Head Start family services staff and the families that they serve. We are in the process of developing measures about what is important in these relationships, and we are recruiting Head Start/Early Head Start family services staff to help us with this study.

I spoke to your program director, [PROGRAM DIRECTOR’S NAME], and he/she gave permission for your program to participate. Your participation in this study is voluntary. An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB number. The OMB # for the referenced collection is 0970-0355 and the expiration date is 01/31/2015.

Should you be willing to participate, we will send you a package containing three packets- one for you and two to give to parents of families you serve. Each packet will contain a self-administered questionnaire to complete and a pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope in which to return the measure. Completion of each measure should only take about 10-15 minutes. As a token of our appreciation, we will send each participant a check for $20 upon receiving the completed measures back at Westat.
