Hi my name is ___________. I work for Child Trends, a nonprofit research center that studies children and families. Child Trends is leading a study on healthy marriage and relationship education (HMRE) programs for the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. We are currently looking for adults in diverse types of families to participate in a short, one-time interview. The interview will help us learn more about questions that may be used by relationship education programs. If you participate, you will receive a $50 gift card. The goal of this study is to learn more about questions that may be used in healthy marriage and relationship education (HMRE) programming and evaluation. We want to make sure that the questions make sense for folks who are in diverse types of families. By that I mean a family where parents may have children from previous relationships. As part of this effort, we will be doing cognitive interviews with adults in these kinds of families.

Cognitive interviews are conversations in which you are asked what you think of different questions. For example, we might ask if the wording of a question makes sense or not. The goal of cognitive interviews is to improve the quality of the questions. The goal is not to get answers to the questions.
