This request is for approval of
recordkeeping and reporting requirements that are contained in the
Federal Family Education Loan Programs (FFELP) regulations, which
address the targeted teacher deferment provision of the Higher
Education Act of 1965, as amended. The information collected is
necessary for a State to support its annual request for designation
of teacher shortage areas within the State. The collection of
information from Chief State School Officers to support and
document the request for teacher shortage areas within a given
State can potentially enable student financial aid recipients to
defer, reduce, or discharge loan debts and/or meet other specified
obligations.
