The purpose of this study is to
collect information from horse owners and trainers using
questionnaires to identify risk factors for Equine Herpesvirus
Myeloencephalopathy (EHM), make recommendations for disease
control, and provide guidance on the best ways to avoid future
outbreaks.
Two outbreaks of Equine
Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM)have occurred in Florida on
February 17, 2013, and on March 3, 2013, in Utah. Immediate
collection of data is needed to understand the risk factors for
EHM, make recommendations for disease control, and provide guidance
on the best ways to avoid future outbreaks based on a thorough
analysis of the data.
