Focus Groups Discussing Service Needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives

Living in Urban Areas

There will be a total of four sites for this effort

Whom to recruit

In each site, we want:

• 10-12 adults, age 18 or older who self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native

• Mix of education levels. No more than 2 with an advanced degree; At least 5 with only some college or below; At least 2 with high school/GED or below.

• Gender Mix. No more than 6 of one gender

• Only one person recruited per household.

• CONVERSANT IN ENGLISH

What will the recruits be asked to do?

• Come to a community space (public library, meeting room in a community center) and participate in a discussion with about 10 other people;

• The group will last about 60 minutes.

• Participants will be asked what they see as the primary service needs of the American Indian/Alaska Native community in their city and how service providers can better meet this community’s needs.

• Snacks will be served, and participants will receive $50 cash for participating in the discussion
