Dear [Researcher],
Hello, this is Kate Masterton, and I am an Associate Fellow at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). I am conducting research to explore the range of uses of the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) beyond indexing the medical literature in MEDLINE. In other words, this project seeks to explore how MeSH vocabulary and MeSH indexing are being used in creative “off label” applications that might include constructing derived databases, data mining, and hypothesis generation. These types of uses are likely growing, and NLM is interested in improving services to this user group, as well as understanding the size and impact of these kinds of works.
We are reaching out to researchers who have recently used MeSH and/or MeSH indexing in informatics research, as identified through published literature and through conversations with other scholars in the field. If you or one of your research colleagues would be willing to speak with us, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your research utilizing MeSH and/or MeSH indexing. To accept our invitation or request additional information, please email me at katherine.masterton@nih.gov (or simply respond to this email). Alternatively, I am available by phone at (301) 496-4943.
Thank you for your consideration,
Associate Fellow
