Revisions to the Collection Instrument
Addition of reporting special wage payments electronically:
Employers have been submitting special wage payments via paper form SSA-131. Starting January 26, 2009, SSA gave employers the capability to submit special wage payment files electronically using the Business Services Online.
Removal of the wet signature:
The Office of Income Security Program is eliminating signatures on forms for which law or regulation does not require the signature, and which do not have a perjury statement, or require systems changes. Based on this, we are revising form SSA-131 Employer Report of Special Wage Payments by eliminating the word “signature” and replacing it with the word “name.”
Revision of the Privacy Act and Paperwork Reduction Act Statements:
We are revising the PRA statement to reflect our current boilerplate language. The current language, which dates back to the last reprint of the form, is now outdated.
SSA's Office of the General Counsel is conducting a systematic review of SSA's Privacy Act Statements on agency forms. As a result, SSA is updating the Privacy Act Statement on this form.
