Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) – Respondent Acceptance
Generic Clearance of Survey Improvement Projects (0535-0248)
The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is preparing to conduct testing of Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI). Selected respondents who have already been selected to participate in one of our existing surveys will have their data collected by the use of an Apple iPad. Following the initial survey the interviewer will collect feedback and comments from the farm operator concerning the use of the new instrument. The surveys selected below where chosen to give NASS a good representation of the different types of farmers and the different questions that are seasonal in nature.
The testing is scheduled to be conducted in seven Field Offices (FL, IN, KS, MD/DE, MN, NJ, and SC). Test States were selected due to the quality of their mobile broadband coverage and the quantity of work normally assigned for field enumeration. Surveys were selected due to their availability of electronic data reporting. Seven enumerators in each of the States are collecting data electronically. In each State, one sample per enumerator per survey will be randomly selected by the Field Offices to complete the cognitive test interview. Listed below are the surveys that are being conducted by CAPI and the associated burden hours.
Testing will begin in September 2010, and be completed by the end of October 2011. |
