On June 11, 2009, the World Health
Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the novel H1N1 flu to
be a world pandemic. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) stated that there have been more than one million cases in
the United States. There have been more than 200 deaths in the
United States. Health officials expect the impact of the H1N1 virus
to increase this fall in conjunction with the advent of the regular
seasonal flu season. It is critical that every effort be made to
increase public awareness of the flu, the need to prepare for it,
and steps individuals can take to minimize its spread
The Assistant Secretary
for Public Affairs, Web Communications Division (ASPA/WCD) is
requesting emergency Office of Management and Budget (OMB) review
and approval for a Flu Prevention Public Service Announcement (PSA)
contest form. Thursday, July 9, 2009, HHS Secretary Kathleen
Sebelius, at a White House organized Flu Summit, announced the Flu
Prevention Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. The contest
will run until August 17th, 2009.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
