  1. What is the cause of the significant increase in applicants to this grant program (in SSA’s opinion)?

Ø       The increase in applicants includes new grant programs that SSA has announced or currently planning to support.  In addition to our current 211 active grants, SSA recently launched a new program (Work Incentives Planning and Assistance).  We received approximately 200 applications in response to the Request for Applications (RFA).

  1. Why do respondents submit two responses annually (rather than just one to complete the grant application)?

Ø     Our grant programs are generally approved for up to five years.  Each year, applicants are required to submit a continuation application in order to receive the next year's funding.  In addition, they are required notify SSA when changes are needed in their awards.  This often requires a revised application (usually the budget pages) and revised award.

  1. Is SSA requesting an exemption from displaying the OMB number and the expiration date on the paper application or the grants.gov application?

Ø     SSA is requesting an exemption to displaying the expiration date only on the paper application.
