Areas of research interest/specialty: Major focus is to understand how genetic variation is distributed among human populations, the evolutionary processes that generated these patterns and how such variation influences similarities and differences in phenotypic features, particularly disease susceptibility, among humans. This focus enables my lab to address fundamental questions about the origins and affinities of humans, develop novel strategies to find disease susceptibility alleles, and characterize genetic variants influencing an assortment of health-related conditions. Of particular interest is in finding genetic variants that influence birth defects and complex, chronic diseases of childhood. |
