For research:
Healthy People is a national health promotion and
disease prevention initiative. The current iteration,
Healthy People 2010, has two overarching goals: to
increase the quality and years of healthy life and to
eliminate health disparities. Healthy People 2010
consists of 28 focus areas and more than 400
measurable health objectives designed to identify the
most significant preventable threats to health and to
establish public health priorities. Efforts are underway
to develop the next set of national goals and
objectives—Healthy People 2020.
