Dear Registered Nurse:

The Bureau of Health Professions at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) would like to hear from you.

You have been chosen at random to participate in the 2008 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (NSSRN); now in its ninth cycle. The survey is meant to collect important information about the nursing workforce at national, regional and State levels. The NSSRN is used to inform policy makers about demand and supply of nurses in the United States, and in turn guides decisions about nursing education and licensing. If you would like a copy of the 2004 NSSRN report please visit our Web site at www.hrsa.gov.

To ensure the statistical accuracy of these data, it is crucial that we obtain information from every RN in the study sample. Since you were selected for this study, it is especially important that we have your response, even if you are no longer active in nursing

Be assured that all information collected will be protected and that your name will never be identified. Westat, a survey research firm, is conducting this survey for us. Westat will report only aggregated statistical data to HRSA.

It is important that you fill out the survey right away. You may complete the paper copy and return in the postage paid envelope, or complete the survey over the Web. The instructions for the web survey are on the cover page of the attached questionnaire. If you have any questions, please call our NSSRN toll-free Helpline at 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx or send an email to NSSRN2008@westat.com.

Your cooperation for this important study is encouraged and deeply appreciated.

Sincerely,

Marcia Brand
