SUBJECT: Request for OMB Review and Clearance for the Collection of State Teacher
Shortage Area Proposals
Attached is the clearance package for the collection of targeted teacher shortage areas proposals from state agencies (OMB No. 1840-0595). The collection is authorized by Title IV, Part B, of the Federal Family Education Loan Program of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. The expiration date for the form is December 31, 2007.
The attached OMB Form 83-I and supporting documents are being submitted as required for approval of a data collection instrument. The information collected is necessary for the states to support their annual requests for designation of teacher shortage areas within each state. The information is also necessary for the borrowers (Paul Douglas Teacher scholars) to support their respective requests for a reduction in their teaching obligation; and the cancellation of up to 100% of a Federal Perkins Loan debt for borrowers teaching full-time in fields of expertise.
I recommend that you transmit the clearance package to OMB for review.
