In 1996, FDA/CFSAN established a list of dairy products that can be exported to the European Community (EC). The program is not based on a regulation or guidance document. It was established by a Federal Register notice (61 FR 15077).
The current list of dairy products that United States firms can export to the EC includes only U.S. firms/processors that handle heat-treated (pasteurized) products. With this proposed program change FDA/CFSAN is adding raw milk cheese producers (cheese made from unpasteurized milk) per agreement with the EC. The change of adding the raw milk cheese producers will be announced in the Federal Register.
