The Health Education Assistance Loan
(HEAL) Program regulatory requirements for reporting,
recordkeeping, and notification are approved under OMB
No.0915-0108. The HEAL program provided federally insured loans to
students in schools for certain health professions. These
reporting, notification, and recordkeeping requirements insure that
the lenders, holders, and schools participating in the HEAL program
follow sound management procedures in the administration of
Federally-insured student loans. The basic purpose of the program
was to assure the availablity of funds for loans to eligible
students who needed to borrow money to pay for their educational
costs.

USC 292 Name of Law: Health Professions Education, Student
Loans
There is a program adjustment
resulting in a decrease in the number of hours required for the
HEAL regulations. Authorization to fund new loans ended in 1998, so
all remaining burden is associated with recordkeeping, reporting,
and notification requirements for remaining loans. As the number of
outstanding loans decreases, the burden requirements will continue
to decrease.
