NSF will
continue to submit letters via email to OMB of plans to conduct
collections under this generic clearance. OMB will provide feedback
within 10 business days for each request. The standard renumeration
for participation in this research is $40. Each information
collection letter sent to OMB must specify the remuneration amount;
requests to compensate greater than $40 should be justified by NSF;
OMB will evaluate these requests on a case-by-case basis. NSF shall
provide no later than March 31 of each year a summary of prior year
test activities that were conducted under this clearance. This
summary should include the surveys tested, a brief discussion of
the project methodology, results, number of respondents, and
renumberation paid.

Survey improvement techniques (e.g.,
focus grousp, cognitive/ usability interviews, and split panel
tests) are routinely used to improve the quality and timeliness of
surveys, while simultaneously reducing respondent burden. The
purpose of this generic clearance is to allow SRS to continue to
use these techniques to improves its data collections on science,
engineering, and technologyinputs and outputs. Respondens are from
industry, academia, nonprofit organizations, and members of the
public.
