In addition, SAMHSA is allowed to collect the "main race" question
consistent with previous terms of clearance for the main study
(0930-0110). SAMHSA shall report the results of the 2001 data
collection on main race as soon as possible, as specified in the
previous terms of clearance on the main study. This main race data
collection shall cease in 2003, and SAMHSA is not allowed to use
this main race question in any of its other surveys. In addition,
in the memo dated 2/14/02, SAMHSA indicated that recruitment
materials for adolescents that are not currently in treatment for
drug or alcohol abuse will be sent to OMB for review and approval
prior to use in the study. Approval for the adolescent module is
contingent on review and clearance of these materials.

This methodological study will be a
three-phased clinical validation study of the substance abuse and
dependence module of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
The first phase will determine psychometric properties of the
current module. If it is determined that the diagnosis of substance
abuse and dependence developed from the module does not
sufficiently correspond with the diagnosis developed from a
structured clinical interview assessment, the module will be
modified and the psychometric properties of a revised module will
be tested as the second phase. A third pahse, if.........
