This information
collection request is approved as revised by HHS e-mail memos dated
11/08/2001 and 12/06/2001. As agreed, HHS will increase the sample
size for the local agency survey from 150 to 300, and will not
select any sites with certainty. Further, HHS will use the local
agency survey results as a basis for selection of sites to visit.
Prior to finalizing its site selection, HHS will report to OMB on
the following:(1)How many sites were chosen broken down by
functional area or multi-functional areas (2)Which sites were
selected (3) Any changes to the site visit protocol or methodology
(4)Response rates for the local area survey. Finally, approval for
this collection will extend through 06/2004 to allow for the new
site visit selection methodology.

This study will examine State and
local practices in Child Protective Services (CPS) in order to
provide a comprehensive picture of CPS system nationwide. Recent
innovative reform efforts will also be examined in more
depth.
