This extended follow-up will collect
information to assess whether over-diagnosis - the identification
of cancers with little-to-no clinical relevance through screening -
occurs with lung cancer screening. To that end, the participants in
the Mayo Lung Project (MLP), a large randomized controlled cancern
screening trial of chest x-ray and sputum cytology conducted in the
1970s and 80s will be contacted and asked about lung cancer
diagnoses since the close of the Project (July 1983).
