Recent ED Y2K assessment surveys have
raised major concerns about the Y2K readiness of our Nation's
schools--more than one-third of the Nation's schools were not yet
fully Y2K compliant, and 4 percent did not believe they would be
ready by January 1st. ED is taking a proactive approach in
evaluating the status of the Nation's schools after January 1st
through a random sample, phone survey of 1,200 elementary/secondary
school districts and 1,950 postsecondary institutions located in
the 50 States, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and the District of
Columbia.
