Terms of Clearance: This collection is approved as amended by ED's revisions of 5/8/97 and on the following condition. ED explore other existing technologies that ease burden on the applicant as well as the Department and revise the application process accordingly. The current use of scannable forms eases administrative burdens on the Department but employs a technology that is becoming rapidly obsolete -- the typewriter. Other technologies could include electronic applications (obtained through the mail or the internet), electronic submissions, different scanning devices which allow greater flexibility in the type of acceptable materials. ED shall report to OMB prior to the next application process the revised process to be used.
