Permits are required for persons to
participate in federally managed fisheries in the western Pacific
region. The permit application forms provide basic information
about permit holders and the vessels and gear being used. This
information is important to understand the nature of the fisheries,
entry and exit patterns, and the extent to which fishing is likely
to effect the stocks and businesses related to the fishery.
Permitting actions provide an important link to the participants so
that NMFS officials can explain the regulations that apply to the
fishery as well as emphasize the importance of complying
with
