this case study of California SIDS cases as amended by the
correspondences of March 26 and 27. Specifically, the results of
this California case study will not be used to make generalizations
about the U.S. population. In addition, NIH agrees that no payments
will be made to respondents and that changes will be made to
increase sensitivity to respondents.

The study will determine the risk of
SIDS associated with sleeping in the prone or side positions
relative to supine position; identify any factors that exacerbate
the association of sleeping position with the risk of SIDS; and
establish baseline information on the prevalence of each sleeping
position. Respondents are 450 mothers of infants who died of SIDS
and 900 matched controls.
