This information
collection is approved for use through September 30, 1992. Upon its
next submission, HHS must provide the following: 1) a description
of plans for the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System
(NCANDS), particularly the details for the Detailed Case Data
System (DCDS) and its relationship to SDS, 2) an update on the
number of States voluntarily reporting this information, 3) an
update on the project timetable for the collection and
dissemination of the data, 4) the reports of 1990 and, if possible,
1991 SDS data, and 5) a description of the efforts to coordinate
and avoid duplication of data collected between the Adoption and
Foster Care Analyses and Reporting System (AFCARS) and NCANDS.

THE SUMMARY DATA SYSTEM OF THE
NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT DATA SYSTEM WILL PROVIDE CRITICAL
AGGREGATE NATIONAL INFORMATION ON FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS CONCERNING
CHILD MALTREATMENT IN THE UNITED STATES. THE SUMMARY DATA SYSTEM
WILL MEET DATA NEEDS OF POLICY MAKERS ADMINISTRATORS, PRACTITIONERS
AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES IN CHILD MALTREATMENT ISSUES.
