OSM WILL SUBMIT REVISED BURDEN ESTIMATES THAT INCLUDE THE TIME IT
TAKES TO PERFORM THE ACTUAL INSPECTION IN ADDITION TO RECORDING THE
RESULTS OF THE INSPECTION. OMB SUGGESTS THAT OSM REVIEW THE
PRACTICAL UTILITY OF ITS STATUTORILY REQUIRED INSPECTIONS WITH THE
GOAL OF REDUCING BURDEN HOURS PURSUANT TO THE PAPERWORK REDUCTION
ACT. IF OSM FINDS THE FREQUENCY AND TYPES OF INSPECTIONS REQUIRED
BY SMCRA WARRANT RECONSIDERATION A LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL SHOULD BE
DEVELOPED.
