Abstract: SMOKE DETECTORS HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE EFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING DEATHS IN FIRES. DATA IS NEEDED AS PART OF A FOLLOW-UP SURVEY TO TRACK THE EXTENT OF OWNERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS OF NON-OWNERS AND THE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS WITH MAINTENANCE AND RELIABILITY OF DETECTORS. THE INFORMATI WILL BE USED TO DESIGN PROGRAMS TO PROMOTE USE OF DETECTORS AND TO EDUCATE OWNERS ON THEIR CARE.
