The proposed
Student Aid Report is approved for use in administering the 1982-83
Pell Grant program (a) without amendment for a period not to exceed
30 days from March 15,1982, and (b) subject to agreements described
in the attached memorandum and list of detailed amendments
(including pen and ink corrections) for the remaining clearance
period through November, 1983. Any request for approval to use a
comparable report in the 1983-84 PellGrant program must include all
the justification documents requested in December 1981 for the
1982-83 clearance package, must include ED's complete analysis of
how to make Section 3 of the form more useful for responsible
school officials and must be submitted for OMB comment at least 90
days prior to final programming for the application processing
system.

THE STUDENT COMPLETES AN APPLICATION
FROM (ED 255) ON WHICH HE/SHE PROVIDES INCOME AND ASSET INFORMATION
NECESSARY TO DETERMINE AN EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION TOWARD
EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES. THE STUDEN SENDS THE FORM TO AN ED CONTRACTOR
WHICH DETERMINES THE AMOUNT OF THE EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION.
THE ED CONTRACTOR THEN SENDS THE STUDENT A SAR WHICH IS A
NOTIFICATION OF THE RESULTS OF THAT DETERMINATION.
