A REVIEW AND
COMPARISON OF THE 1982 NATIONAL HEALTH INTERVIEW SURVEY WITH THE
1981 SURVEY SUGGESTS THAT TOTAL BURDEN HOURS ARE UNDERESTIMAT FOR
THE 1982 SURVEY. THE ESTIMATED TOTAL BURDEN HOURS OF ANNUAL BURDE
IN THE 1982 SURVEY HAS BEEN REVISED FROM THE SUGGESTED 24,578
UPWARD TO 32,000 HOURS. THIS TOTAL IS EQUAL TO THE AMONT OF BURDEN
ESTIMATED FOR THE 1981 NATIONAL HEALTH INTEVIEW SURVEY.

THE 1982 NHIS WILL OBTAIN DATA ON THE
UTILIZATION OF HEALTH SERVICES, THE MAGNITUDE AND DISTRIBUTION OF
ILLNESS AND THE EFFECTS IN THE U.S. POPULATION. THIS WILL BE
ACCOMPLISHED USING A SET OF REVISED HEALTH RELATED QUESTIONS
INCLUDING SUPPLEMENTS ON "HEALTH INSURANCE" AND "PREVENTIVE
CARE."
